King James Version
11 And it came to pass, that,
as he was praying in a certain place,
when he ceased,
one of his disciples said unto him,
Lord, teach us to pray,
as John also taught his disciples.
What is the best prayer?
Pray to know God's will.
Apart from thanking God for all our blessings, known, unknown, seen, and unseen, this instruction from Jesus is the MOST challenging, and important prayer.
Luke 11:2
King James Version
2 And he said unto them,
When ye pray, say,
Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
as in heaven,
so in earth.
When you pray to know God's WILL, you send out the message of obedience.
God will surely help you with whatever you need, according to His will.
Of course, we can't understand that will, unless we're born again.
John 3:3
King James Version
3 Jesus answered and said unto him,
Verily, verily,
I say unto thee,
Except a man be born again,
he cannot see the kingdom of God.
We need to be born of water and of the Spirit,
John 3:5
King James Version
5 Jesus answered,
Verily, verily,
I say unto thee,
Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
so we may discern the will of God.
1 Corinthians 2:14
King James Version
14 But the natural man receiveth not
the things of the Spirit of God:
for they are foolishness unto him:
neither can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned.
Spiritual discernment is essential, for God is a Spirit.
John 4:24
King James Version
24 God is a Spirit:
and they that worship him
must worship him
in spirit and in truth.
I've said it often enough -- unless we are born again, we won't understand things of the Spirit.
We'll continue to doubt, challenge, be confused, and defy.
But once you're born again, your heart automatically turns to Scripture -- the WORD of GOD.
When you are drawn to the Bible, the Holy Spirit makes things crystal clear.
God's Spirit gives you right interpretation of His Word.
Then, and only then can you do the will of the Father -- unquestioned.
For you see His ways, His wisdom, and His love.
You love praying to know His will.
Before you think, speak, or act, you can be found praying that God's will "be done", as Jesus taught us.
Being born again, we become sealed by the Holy Spirit, and He helps us pray, the right way, so we may know the will of God.
Romans 8:26
King James Version
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities:
for we know not what we should pray for
as we ought:
but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us
with groanings which cannot be uttered.
In short, only through Spirit can we know God's will.
If you're not born again, you will never be on target.
I can honestly vouch about that accuracy, for I am born again, and greatly desirous to know God's will EVERY moment.
Once you're born again, you will never want to think for yourself anymore.
Only God's will is upheld.
It's a lovely way to live, lived in certainty, founded on Jesus' life, and instructions.
He did go to the cross, as it was the Father's will, and also in fulfillment of Scripture, that we may be saved from the power of death, and of the devil.
It is actually a delight to do the Father's will, for by ourselves, what do we really know?
Do we see the whole picture?
Only God, who created the first man, heaven, and earth, can be counted on for guidance.
Through His Spirit, we would know His will.
By being born again, we will follow that will.
I believe even a child could understand this.
It's a systematic belief, a step-by-step process in following the will of God.
1. SEEK God with all your heart.
2. BECOME born again.
3. PRAY to know His will.
4. TRUST an answer is forthcoming.
5. HAVE faith in God's wisdom.
6. GIVE thanks for the answer.
7. OBEY whatever He asks you to do.
After that, keep doing STEPS 3-7 each time you have a question, or desire in your heart.
Clear your heart for God, for that will be His home.
Be not obsessed with the ways of the world.
Remain focused on God alone.
The more you read Scripture, the more you understand God.
His ways will become clear.
You will even find yourself thrilled at the ways of God, for He, too has humor, and delights to delight His children.
As born again, you will see humor in God's ways, for you have become child-like with God.
Matthew 18:3
King James Version
3 And said,
Verily I say unto you,
Except ye be converted,
and become as little children,
ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
There is no going around what God's will is for us.
We are His children.
Father knows best.
Stop being the rebellious teen.
Waste of time, and energy.
Become a teachable child.
JESUS is the answer.
Follow His example.
He only cared to do the Father's will.
